Ballet Class Music While You Drive - Are You Joking?

I've been a fan of all types of classical music since...I was born, I suppose. Having consistently listened to the wide range of styles within that genre for over fifty years, I really wasn't expecting at this stage of my life to encounter an undiscovered (for me, at least) pocket of classical gems. Well, the news is, I did just that recently when I came across ballet class music for the first time. I even listen to it in my car.
I'm certain most people have no idea what ballet class music is, unless they've taken a ballet class at some point in their journey through life. Fortunately it can be explained quickly and easily. When teaching ballet, the more upscale ballet studios employ a pianist to improvise music for the ballet classes. Smaller studios use CDs which are recorded and sold by these same pianists. This is referred to throughout the dance world, appropriately enough, as ballet class music.
There are two distinct types of this musical style and I'm enamored with only one of them and find the other pedantic at best and profoundly irritating at worst. We all have our musical tastes, after all. Some pianists simply use opi from classical literature and alter the phrasing to fit the ballet exercise. While it might work well for the dancers, it reminds me of listening to a rendition of one of my favorite pieces of music played by someone who never bothered to really learn it.
It's the improvised ballet class music that I have found fascinating. Of course it depends on the pianist who composed the music, but in the hands of a clever composer who is also an excellent improvisational pianist some absolutely delightful musical gems emerge. The unfortunate reality is, these jewels of original music are almost never heard outside the confines of a ballet studio, and even then only in the focused intensity of a class.
The pianist who has the skill to improvise the music for ballet class is still restricted to a tight set of rules. Four measures of introduction are always required; every phrase must be exactly eight bars; tempos are strictly limited to the specifications of each exercise; and the character of the music must reflect the requirements of the dancers' movements. All of which makes it obvious why in the wrong hands the resulting music, however suited it is to the class, can be excruciating to listen to.
A capable composer/pianist, however, can tap into a wellspring of creativity and originality and turn the restrictions to full advantage. In such a case, the listener will hear beautifully crafted melodies, unexpected chord progressions, and emotionally charged phrasing and nuance. Underlying the classical overtones, will be a range of every musical style ever invented, cleverly worked into an appropriate presentation for the ballet exercise; jazz, blues, Broadway, avant-garde, romantic, impressionistic, contemporary, baroque, country, and ragtime all show up at various times during a well-played ballet class.
If you're at all intrigued and would like to sample it for yourself, you're probably wondering where you could find music like that. The best advice I can give you is to ask a ballet student if you can borrow one of their CDs. It's highly unlikely they'll tell you they lost it.

How Arabic Embroidery Art Is Developed Through Time

The Arabic embroidery is a particular kind of embroidery which has existed for hundreds of years ago. Its designs represent the earlier ideologies even before religions had actually existed or developed.
In the Arabic embroidery, each character symbolizes a certain theme. For instance, the ear of corn symbolizes fertility while the goddess is expressed by the image of a moon. Even the colors have roles in defining the meaning of the embroidery. The primary colors are red, black and white. They symbolize the three phases of the goddess. The purity and fight against evil is signified by the while colors, where the red reflects the second phase of the life of the goddess as a mature woman enjoying love and fertility. Black, on the other hand, represents the goddess, who is old and wise, the oracle. This is why you will find most Arab dresses to be embroidered using these three main colors. Because each of these colors has a different and distinctive meaning and was believed, long time back, to have interacted with body parts, making the person wearing them healthy.
The Arabic embroidery was influenced by many factors, the most important of which is the spread of Islam. Since Islam has spread in the region, embroidery started to be influenced by Islamic writings. Most patterns had geometric designs, floral designs or calligraphy. And as the Quran teachings forbid the figures of animals or humans, the embroidery is centered on writing letters in an Arabic Islamic form. The images of animals or human beings were not to be used at all since the spread of Islam. Although some may argue that this could be a limit to creativity, it had in fact pushed people to be more creative and innovative with the resources they have in hand.
The Ottoman period was one of the richest periods in terms of fashion and embroidery. It blended the Arabic patterns with the Turkish ones. Several items of clothes available to date reflect the creativity and the very fine detail of the decorative details used at that time. The embroidery, the color, the fabric, the patterns...everything used blended homogeneously together reflecting a rich form of art. Female clothes were richer in terms of patterns and embroidery used as there was more room for creativity and originality.
The art of embroidery passed on from a generation to the next over thousands of years, since the time of Bedouins and peasants inhibiting the Arab desserts. The same patterns and colors still exist to date, however, not as widely used, as it was one day. Only lately though had this form of art started to take another form, a more modern and up to date one. The variety of colors, fabrics and patterns increased revealing newer forms of art, that are more modern and up to date, reflecting the status of a world, bringing forward the histories of multiple cultures together.

I Got It From My Mama - Is Musical Talent Hereditary?

Is musical talent hereditary? Is there a special gene that is passed down through one's bloodline? If you looked at the family of Hall of Fame's Country Star Betty Logan, one would think so! Betty Logan along with her sister Christine, formerly known as the Logan Sisters Were inducted into Country Music's Hall of Fame in 1991.The Logan Sisters had their own T.V. Show and also appeared on the Dick Clark Show several times in the early 60's and is known for her song "Just A Little" that was written for famous country singer Brenda Lee.
Miss E.Gail Cason, The Daughter of Miss Betty Logan, is making a name for herself! She just one first place in a new monthly online talent competition, it looks like the apple doesn't fall far from the tree! Miss Cason's Siblings were also blessed with great talent and musical ability. They have their very own band called The Dean Dollar Band, and have opened up for famous acts such as Hootie and the Blowfish, Waylon Jennings, The Charlie Daniels Band and Wide Spread Panic to name a few. Miss E. Gail's niece, Ashley Quarles, the newest rising star of this multi-talented family of singers and songwriters is following right along in her grandmother's footsteps!
Given this and other countless examples such as: The Jacksons, The Osmonds, The Judds, Nat King and Natalie Cole (and yes, even the Jonas brothers) people have often assumed that musical talent runs in families. A study of 15 Finnish families, published in the  of Medical Genetics, provides the first proof that musical ability is indeed linked to genes.
But there are those who would disagree. Musical talent has been seriously questioned by these scientists, Richard Howe of the University of Exeter, Jane Davidson of the University of Sheffield and John Sloboda of Keele University. They have taken the position that talent is a "myth "and have examined the evidence that talent exists and concluded that this concept does not explain high levels of achievement in music or anything else.
If genetic talent doesn't exist, how can we explain high, even exceptional, levels of achievement in performing music? Whether or not "musical talent" exists or is a convenient "myth", most would likely agree that achievement requires intensive and sustained to reach ones full potential. Is there a gene pool of talent in your family? Why not upload a video of yourself performing in an online talent competition? Who knows you could be the next rising star waiting on the horizon!
