Julia Roberts, you look so adorable on the cover of your movie Eat Pray Love. You are savoring what I can only imagine is the most delicious vanilla ice cream with that little blue spoon. I would like to believe that you're enjoying that last bite and contemplating wanting to go get more. Alas, this is not what Eat Pray Love is about and that plastic blue spoon is only a prop trying to help promote this movie into something more desirable than what it is.
Eat Pray Love is about a writer, Liz Gilbert, who is dissatisfied with her life. She says that she feels empty; she no longer has an appetite for life. She finds an old drawing that a Balinese prophet, Ketut, gave to her many years ago. He had told her that she would be married twice, one short and one long. She would lose all her money but not to worry, she would get it back. She would also return to Bali to learn his secrets and help him with his English. Remembering the fondness of her time in Bali, what does she decide to do? Well, she feels the need to break the current cycle of her life. She ends her marriage to Stephen (Billy Crudup) and falls for a struggling actor David (James Franco). He introduces her to his beliefs of a guru from India. Maybe the age difference is the reason or maybe it's because Liz still feels unfulfilled, either way the relationship soon falls to pieces. So Liz convinces her boss to fund a yearlong excursion to travel to Rome, India, and Bali in hopes of finding herself and maybe writing a book from it.
First, she goes to Italy for three months to take pleasure in the scrumptious food, and to drink the delicious wine that the country has to offer. She befriends a Norwegian girl and her Italian tutor. They show her around and introduce her to the Italian way of life - relaxing. Just when you would think that Liz has found happiness with her new friends, her new understanding of the language, and the pleasure of not feeling guilty for having to wear some bigger jeans from all the eating, she is off to India.
In India, she longs to meet David's guru only to discover that she had gone to New York. Liz doesn't let that deter her from finding spiritual enlightenment. While working at a sort of commune, she meets a Texan named Richard. He too is looking for some sort of freedom from his past. He gives Liz a hard time, nicknaming her "Groceries" due to all the food she eats. He seems to keep pushing her to clear her mind of all the noise that's inside her head. Near the end of his stay, Richard reveals what brought him to Bali, in a very touching and emotional story.
Then soon after Richard's departure, Liz is off to her next destination, Bali. She meets up with Ketut but doesn't seem to progress with her promise. While bicycling one afternoon she is struck by a vehicle. She survives, and is well enough to go out partying that night. While at a bar, Felipe (Javier Bardem) the man that collided his jeep with her bike, spots her. He seems mesmerized by Liz and shows up the next morning in her open-air cabin, inviting her to get a coffee. a new love emerges and they spend every moment together. As they say, "All good things must come to an end," and Liz has a plane to catch back to the states. Felipe tries to convince her to stay with him. She has to make a decision. Does she return to her life in New York or stay in Bali with Felipe? Does she even care for Felipe? She finally feels free; does she really want to settle back down again?
Honestly, at this point I didn't care what she chose to do or how she felt. Of course, staying with Felipe in a beautiful foreign country sounds wonderful. She could easily go back home and write her book. There is not a real longing attachment to Liz's character. You might understand why she feels the way she does, or sympathize why she left her husband, or be jealous of her ability to be able to take a year off of work "to find herself," but she just seems kind of bland. There are some cute moments in the film, and as said before Richard has a touching story. The film is mediocre and the storyline isn't worthwhile either. Would I watch the film again? Unless I was at home, with nothing to do and it was on basic television, I might consider watching it. Even then it wouldn't have my full attention. I would find something else to occupy my time and just use it as background noise.

It's a great size for a DJ controller. Not too big to transport easily (unlike the Numark NS7) and big enough to look cool.
It also appears to be scalable enough for both beginner and pro DJs to use with confidence.
What advantage for you? Stability my friend. The last thing you want is for your DJ mixing software to get stuck in a set and embarrass you, leaving you red faced and having to reboot everything. With everyone laughing and pointing at you.

Traktor Kontrol S4 review - the verdict
Pros This controller is great. For me, it's the fact that the DJ will enjoy him or herself and not get stressed and lost with the controls.
Having the 4 channel mixer is a massive plus.
I do think having a 24 bit sound card is a must and you should only be considering digital gear which has at least that.
It also looks extremely cool.

I think that if you're a turntablists, you should consider using Serato as Traktor seem to be less adapted for turntablism.
Price isn't for everybody
The price is not low, but gets you good, high end material with reliable software that'll last you for the next 5 years at least, and probably more.

Born in Long Branch, New Jersey, in 1949, Bruce Frederick Joseph Springsteen, spent most of his childhood and school years in the borough of Freehold, New Jersey.
Bruce was inspired to go into music after watching Elvis Presley perform on The Ed Sullivan Show and at the age of thirteen, he got his first guitar. In 1965, he became the lead guitarist and lead singer of the group, The Castilles.
In the late sixties, Bruce was nicknamed "The Boss", a name he initially disliked, since most of his music was about hard working people and the less fortunate. During the early seventies he experimented with many different sounds, including blues, rock and roll and soul.
Bruce formed several bands before getting the sound he was looking for and eventually created The E Street Band, which included Clarence Clemmons, David Sancious, Danny Federici, Gary Tallent, and Vini Lopez.
Columbia Records signed Bruce in 1972 and his debut album, "Greetings From Asbury Park, NJ" was a critical success, but did not produce any hit singles. Neither did their second album, "The Wild, The Innocent & The E Street Shuffle."
In 1975, Sancious and Lopez were replaced by Roy Brittan and Max Weinberg. Miami Steve Van Zandt completed the group and the album "Born To Run" was recorded.

It is the goal of every singer to be able to reach high notes. However, this can prove to be a frustrating endeavor especially during the beginner phase when you are still learning the basics of proper singing.
Let us take a look at some tips that will help you to increase your vocal range. Through patience, hard work and constant practice, you will be capable of singing high notes in no time.
The knowledge of voice registers is vital to learning how to sing high notes. The most commonly used terms for voice registers by beginners are "low voice", "regular voice" and "high voice". These should not be confused with the volume registers of "heavy voice" and "light voice".
The trick to singing high notes is to reduce your consciousness or awareness of voice registers. If your voice breaks or cracks when you attempt to reach high notes, this is because there is a lack of coordination between your laryngeal muscles and resonators and air flow.
The three main registers consist of the following: for males, you have the chest, head and falsetto and for females, you have chest, middle and head. Training you voice in these three registers will enable you to reach those high notes.
In trained voices, each of these registers are an octave (or 8 notes) in length. Certain notes will need to be sung in a specific register or at points wherein these registers overlap. Most beginners will tend to use the chest register more often than the others. To counteract this tendency, you need to exercise your voice by singing through the entire octave.

Top 80s Songs: Artists Who Never Let Us Down - Part 1

I remember a day when everybody hated 80s music (I think it was a day in 1993 after that ridiculous first Bush album came out). Now it's become a beloved genre all its own. Not so kitsch as disco, and not as beloved as full-on classic rock, 80's music can be a lot of things to a lot of people. If you were a 'metal-head', then Def Leppard and Van Halen might still be gods to you. If you were a fashionista then perhaps Madonna or Cyndi Lauper were your material girls who just wanna have fun. If you were misunderstood in high-school, then maybe it was Simple Minds or Bauhaus who wrote your top 80s songs.
It was a great time to be alive, and while there were a ton of one-hit wonders, there are a smaller circle of artists who never let us down. Creating classic after classic, these acts not only dominated radio and walk-mans, but are probably on tour today. The only difference is, instead of seeing 90 minutes of yawn-inducing filler and one encore hit where you all have to stand up and sing 'relax...don't do it!', you get a solid two hours of hits!
So, in no particular order, here is a list of artists who never let us down when it came to top 80s songs:
Duran Duran: 'The Reflex', 'Rio, 'Hungry Like the Wolf'...where do you want us to start (or stop)? These guys crafted great and--for the time--unusual pop hits with videos that were as cool to look at today as they were back then. And thank god they're still around and playing shows, because I can't bring myself to go see some weird Guns-n-Roses lineup.
Hall & Oats: These guys actually got us first in the 70s with 'Sara Smile', but by the 80s it almost seemed like they could do no wrong with a bevvy of hits that spanned the decade. My personal favorite: 'Private Eyes'. Darryl Hall still has a phenomenal voice and is making his presence known online.
Journey: Honestly, I hate Steve Perry (and was glad Steve Augeri replaced him), but there's just no denying that Journey could do no wrong during the 80s. From amazing ballads to rocking classics, the songwriting and execution was absolutely second to none.
Pat Benatar: This pint-sized powerhouse went from hard-rock supersinger to pop/rock icon in the space of ten short years. With hits like 'Hit Me With Your Best Shot' and 'Love is a Battlefield', Benatar managed to cover a lot of stylistic territory without compromising that gorgeous voice.
Def Leppard: Are you kidding? Do I even need to explain this one? Put aside over 20 million albums sold just between Pyromania and Hysteria, the whole reason these albums (and those before and after) sold so well was because Def Leppard and (producer) Mutt Lange wouldn't let any disc go out the door without at least four hits (and in the case of Hysteria, six absolute classics) and
Van Halen: These hard-rock icons were probably second only to Led Zeppelin in terms of arena-rock (and, for my money, I'd take VH over Zepp just on personal preferences), and though they got their phenomenal start in the 70s, they managed to only ramp things up in the 80s, even throwing themselves a curve by changing singers mid-stream. With the greatest guitarist on the planet and singers who could pull hit lyrics out of thin air, Van Halen just pounded out classic after classic (and we'd love to see them do it again!).

If you are currently learning about music right now in a class or on your own, you may have heard someone talk about the 7 elements of music. Don't worry about understanding this completely right now. It is just a way to break down a piece of music into specific areas making it easier to learn, think about, and discuss.
The "elements of music" is jargon for the different components or parts that music is made up of. If you take an introductory course in music, this is one of the first things you will learn.
There are a total of 7 elements of music to learn according to the National Standards for Arts Education. My intention here is to define these for you in very simple terms to make it easier to understand.
1. Pitch - the low and high quality of sound. Pitch is basically a way of describing how high or low a sound is.
2. Rhythm - silence and sound organized in time. We can have long and short durations of sound and silence that moves to a steady pulse or beat, kind of like your heart beat.
3. Harmony - a collection of pitches sounding simultaneously. A chord is used most often to represent harmony. It is 3 or more notes sounding together.
4. Dynamics - how loud or soft music is. Sometimes there are markings in music that tell the player how soft or loud to play in certain sections. This makes the music more interesting to play or listen to.
5. Timbre - distinct sound native to the instrument or voice. Tone color is also what this is sometimes called. Think of it as an artist's palette of color. There are so many different kinds of sounds that can be created from one voice or instrument.
6. Texture - the vertical and horizontal relationships within music. This is something you will discover as you continue learning to read music. There are times when a composer uses a simple melody with very little harmony. This is an example of a very "thin" texture. Other times, the composer likes to write heavy chords with a lot of action in the melody line. A "thick" texture is what this represents. Some music sounds a lot more complicated than others when you listen to it. The texture of the music is what you are hearing.
7. Form - how written music is designed and organized. I tell many of my students that the form of music is similar to how an academic paper is written. There is an introduction, body and conclusion. Music can sometimes be organized in this way also. There are times when composers will write music with a specific form in mind. In other cases, they create the music first and then see what organization of the music (if any) happens as a result.
If you are new to learning music, don't get caught up in trying to understand all of the 7 elements of music right now. Be careful not to get paralyzed by this amount of information. It can keep you from moving forward in your learning. If you are learning to read music for the first time, then you will want to remain focused on rhythm and pitch.
While it is good to know about the general parts that music is made up of, keep focused on what you are learning right now. All of this will become more understandable in time as you dive deeper into your learning.

First thing to do is set a budget. It seems obvious, but you should have a maximum amount you're willing to spend. Thirdly, you'll want to do research on what's out there and get lots of quotes as far in advanced as possible. Acts can be booked, sometimes a year or more in advanced, so a couple of hours on the internet can help you trace acts, and sending a couple dozen emails to your favourite acts will mean you'll get an immediate response as to who's available, and you can secure your booking arrangements.
You can do a lot of the research, if not all of the research on the internet. Just a piece of paper, a pen, and Google or any other search engine will help you find the type of entertainment you're after. You can either look for select acts like typing in, 'soul singers' in your area, like 'soul singer London' or look for entertainment agencies which can present you with an array of entertainers. Some agencies will do the leg work for you, providing you with a list of suitable candidates available on the day.
If you're sourcing bands or acts individually, you'll want to tell them how long you want them to perform for, and whether they can provide music in the intermissions or whether you'll be needing to hire a DJ as well. Usually, acts will perform for two hours with a break in between, but some bands perform longer or shorter and have different prices for different lengths of performances. You'll obviously want to tell them where it is located too, and be sure to ask them if they have any insurance. If anything happens or any damages are incurred to you, your guests or the venue because of the performer(s) or their equipment, it will be worth them having insurance. If they don't have any insurance, and you still want them to perform at your event, request they get themselves covered at least a month before the date of your wedding.
You'll also want to ascertain more information, such as what songs they do, whether they can perform a live rendition of your first dance (if you so wish) and whether they'll provide all the equipment, sound, power and lighting. This will help you decide whether the band or act is suitable for your event, and by no means should you feel you have to choose one act only. It may be pertinent to appeal to your guests by having multiple entertainment if your budget allows.
Once you've gotten quotes and the act or acts are available on your wedding day, you can make a choice based on price and what they provide. Once you're ready to hire an act, then for your benefit, sign a mutual contract agreement. You and they will outline requirements for each other, including payment method. They may require access to a changing room. You may require them to set up hours before the guests arrive so that your guests are not bothered during the day.
Last but not least, it's about them working with you or your wedding planners. Most acts will be very helpful in providing you with professional advice.
