As a lead guitarist, I'm always on the lookout for guitar jam-tracks. However the online sites appear to be a piecemeal collection, ranging from hard-sell sites pushing complete packages on you, decent sites that are swamped in flashing advertising banners to hobby sites set up as blogs with a handful of oddly named tracks
After getting lost and frustrated in the morass, I decided to systematically compare the sites in order to answer a simple question:
Guitar jam tracks - which single site offers the most features?
After poring over Google searches I had come up with the following - alphabetically ordered - 16 sites as potential contenders:

The above sites were examined for the following features. These features are purely subjective in that they are important to me. Others users might have similar or different criteria. Also, the features are not weighted, meaning they are, to me, all roughly as important as each other:
(1) Users can submit guitar jam-tracks
(2) The tracks are ordered by key
(3) The tracks are ordered by date
(4) The tracks are ordered by genre
(5) There are tracks for every single key
(6) There is a mailing list
(7) Users can post comments in a discussion area
(8) There are scale charts available for each key
(9) There is a video instruction area
(10) The tracks can be previewed
(11) The tracks can be streamed
(12) The tracks are downloadable
(13) The tracks are accurately and precisely named
(14) The tracks are studio production quality
(15) The track names contain the chord progression information

After systematically comparing the 16 sites, the highest ranking site turned out to be  which fulfilled 13 of the 16 criteria. The three criteria it missed out on were (4), (11) and (16).
(4) 'The jam tracks are ordered by genre'. At this site the tracks are not ordered by genre. The site is navigated by first knowing the key and tempo one is after, and then looking for a guitar jam track in that genre.
(11) 'The jam tracks can be streamed'. At this site the tracks cannot be streamed in their entirety. However, users can hear a 20 to 30 second clip and decide, based upon that, whether to download the track or not.
(16) 'Jam tracks are free'. At this site the tracks are not free. At the time of writing they all appear to be a uniform price of 99 United States cents, payable securely through PayPal.

Just recently a friend suggested that I see a singer named Jackie Evancho perform on a PBS special titled "Dream with Me in Concert." This young singer has an extraordinary voice that is mature and polished so much so that one could easily go into shock upon discovering she is only 11 years old.
As an extra bonus I saw her being interviewed and she was a typical 11 year old girl. Oh how I love to see young singers who are not tarnished by success, have an uncanny sense of what music is all about and still act their age. In a sense I am convinced that if they can go through each stage of being a child it helps them to be an even better singer since they are not robbed of their childhood as so many young aspiring artists are.
Jackie's popularity gained after performing on the fifth season of the America's Got Talent show and finishing in second place. She has a recording contract with Columbia Records. Her debut song "O Holy Night" debuted at #2 on Billboard making her the top selling debut artist for 2010. It also ranked #1 on Billboards' Classical Albums Chart and went platinum in December 2010 making her the youngest solo artist to go platinum. In December of that year she also sang "O Holy Night" at the National Christmas Tree Lighting Event in Washington, DC.
As if that isn't enough she plays the piano and violin and writes some song lyrics. She has appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show and the Jay Leno show. Whether she sings opera or pop music there is no mistaking that she has it. It is so there!
Raw Talent is very rare. Stop and think of the overall picture. There is no glitter or pizazz, no elaborate choreography. It's just that one person standing still, singing to you with pure crystal clear tone so that you are watching only that person and listening intently to him/her sing.
Let me tell you folks as I watched this dear young girl sing I was in awe of her voice and related it to Susan Boyle's singing. If any one's singing can have 'raw talent' like Susan it is Jackie. Her singing voice is now locked in my mind and I wait with excitement to hear more and more of her tone which is exquisite. Bravo, Bravo, Bravo Jackie! I am so honored to have listened to you sing.

Best Songs on Acoustic Guitar Part 3

Here are a few more songs that deserve to at least be mentioned as some of the best acoustic songs. There are so many great songs that feature the acoustic guitar that it is hard to choose the which ones make the cut. But these songs use the instrument in a special or unique way that really sets them apart from the rest.
1. American Pie - Don McLean. This epic 9 minute ode to three dead musicians is the soundtrack for a generation. Obviously this is the song that made McLean famous, and rightfully so. The guitar work in the song is perfect. It is simple, but it needs to be simple because of how creative and in-depth the lyrics are. The song is about anything and everything about the flower power generation and culminates in talking about the untimely deaths of Richie Valens, Buddy Holly and the Big Bopper. Like I said it is an epic, 9 minute long song, yet almost everyone knows at least a good chunk of the lyrics. That is why American Pie needs to be on this list.
2. Desolation Row - Bod Dylan - This song, combined with American Pie mentioned above, are longer than most studio albums by bands now-a-days. This is one of those ranty type Bob Dylan songs where he discusses his views on society. He does it in an almost 12 minute songs with an amazing strumming and plucking pattern on the acoustic guitar. But what shines most, as with most Dylan songs, are the lyrics. They are winding, flowing, and mind-boggling. That is why Desolation Row needs to be on the list of best acoustic songs.
3. Naked as We Came - Iron and Wine - Little needs to be said to a fan of Iron and Wine when describing how amazingly talented that man is. Most would think when hearing Iron and Wine that it is a band, but as a matter of fact it is just one guy, Samuel Beam. He is a throw back to great singer-songwriters of the past. In Naked as We Came, Bean finger picks this classy melody on his acoustic guitar and his amazing voice and lyrics just flow over the tune. Though not a classic by any means, it is a tribute to the great singer-songwriters that came before him and deserves to be mentioned.
4. Honey and the Moon - Joseph Arthur. Again, like Naked as We Came, it is more of a modern tune, but still at its core is a classic singer-songwriter jam. The guitar is played capo-ed on the fourth fret and is masterfully finger picked throughout. The guitar, melody and lyrics are the highlights in the song as I am not the biggest fan of Arthur's almost whispered vocals, but those three elements of the song alone give it it's place among the best acoustic songs.
