The Internet was originally created to share and spread knowledge. It is highly unlikely that the engineers who originally configured what we now know as the Internet intended for people to spend thousands of hours downloading videos of monkeys sniffing their own farts. But they didn't get out much! If you want to take your idle mind for a walk, here are the best websites for wasting your time:
YouTube - No list about wasting your time and brain cells would be complete without first mentioning YouTube. Whether it represents all that is wrong with the world or all that is great about it is a matter of opinion, but with over a billion page views - I don't think they care.
Wikipedia - Perhaps more inline with the Internet creators' intent, Wikipedia, the free, online Encyclopedia, is one of the most click-able sites on the web. The in-text links make it easy to go from reading about a city in China to reading about the history of pizza in just a few clicks... But hey, at least you are leaning!
Virtual Tourist - My favorite travel website! Virtual Tourist contains travel reviews and tips from people who have been there. Their database is huge. You can find tips ranging from Paris to Shentuckettville, Wisconsin. MY favorite section is the 'Warnings and Dangers' section... Reading warnings and dangers of places like Rio, Somalia, or Johannesburg can be pretty darn interesting.
eBay - Don't think it is addicting? Try searching for "NIB NR" (new in box with no reserve) sorted by ending soonest. If you like getting a good deal or you are a hoarder of worthless things, you won't be able to stop yourself!
BuzzFeed - Looking for the best the internet has to offer? Check out BuzzFeed, a site that pulls the most viral content on the web and puts it all in one place for you to find.
