Just recently a friend suggested that I see a singer named Jackie Evancho perform on a PBS special titled "Dream with Me in Concert." This young singer has an extraordinary voice that is mature and polished so much so that one could easily go into shock upon discovering she is only 11 years old.
As an extra bonus I saw her being interviewed and she was a typical 11 year old girl. Oh how I love to see young singers who are not tarnished by success, have an uncanny sense of what music is all about and still act their age. In a sense I am convinced that if they can go through each stage of being a child it helps them to be an even better singer since they are not robbed of their childhood as so many young aspiring artists are.
Jackie's popularity gained after performing on the fifth season of the America's Got Talent show and finishing in second place. She has a recording contract with Columbia Records. Her debut song "O Holy Night" debuted at #2 on Billboard making her the top selling debut artist for 2010. It also ranked #1 on Billboards' Classical Albums Chart and went platinum in December 2010 making her the youngest solo artist to go platinum. In December of that year she also sang "O Holy Night" at the National Christmas Tree Lighting Event in Washington, DC.
As if that isn't enough she plays the piano and violin and writes some song lyrics. She has appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show and the Jay Leno show. Whether she sings opera or pop music there is no mistaking that she has it. It is so there!
Raw Talent is very rare. Stop and think of the overall picture. There is no glitter or pizazz, no elaborate choreography. It's just that one person standing still, singing to you with pure crystal clear tone so that you are watching only that person and listening intently to him/her sing.
Let me tell you folks as I watched this dear young girl sing I was in awe of her voice and related it to Susan Boyle's singing. If any one's singing can have 'raw talent' like Susan it is Jackie. Her singing voice is now locked in my mind and I wait with excitement to hear more and more of her tone which is exquisite. Bravo, Bravo, Bravo Jackie! I am so honored to have listened to you sing.
