Looking At Some Of The Stories Behind Some Popular Karaoke Songs

There are reasons why people would select some popular karaoke songs over others. We identify very strongly with the meaning behind the lyrics of certain songs as they stand for situations we may face or recognize.
The rock composition 'The Eye of the Tiger', originally written for the movie Rocky 3, catapulted the band Survivor to the number one position in the U.S. charts. In the movie, Rocky Balboa, played by Sylvester Stallone faces a moral as well as a physical battle against a powerful challenger, James "Clubber" Lang, the character portrayed by Mr T. Because of the film's content, the song has gone on to serve as a theme for both wrestlers and boxers. The deeper meaning behind the song lies in the quest to prove your worth, usually against overwhelming odds. Its distinctive opening riff and positive message has turned it into a regular choice with karaoke fans.
The popular Bon Jovi song 'Living on a prayer' is about regular people, a blue-collar worker named Tommy and his wife Gina, who is a waitress. Included on the 1986 album 'Slippery when Wet' it enjoyed a 4 week stint at number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 singles charts. Co-written by Desmond Child, who contributed to several other Bon Jovi hits, it is rumoured that vocalist Jon Bon Jovi was initially sceptical about the song. The fans proved him wrong. The band played it acoustically at the benefit concert after the 9/11 attacks, 'The Concert for New York City'. The song strongly relays the struggles of everyday people and their battle to keep their heads above water when all they have is their love for each other.
Avril Lavigne rose to stardom with her very first album 'Let Go', which was produced when she was only seventeen years old. The single 'Complicated' rose to number one globally. The song is about trying to make sense about the social lies and deceptions that are so ingrained in our society. Part of Avril Lavigne's greater appeal lies in her fresh and very true to life approach. She writes her own songs. It may please karaoke fans to know that she used karaoke tapes created in her parents home to promote herself and secure a record deal when she was only sixteen years old.
In the spotlight since he was a young child, Michael Jackson succeeded in bridging the gap from juvenile fame to adult superstardom. Known for his funky dance moves as well as his flamboyant stage presence, his album Thriller contained a number of hit tracks, one of them being 'Beat it', a song about gang violence. While the song is actually about the hopelessness of fighting back when overwhelmed, it is easy to see how the catchy chorus of 'Just Beat it, beat it' can take on another meaning, when for instance you want to relay the message that someone's company is unwelcome. Eddie Van Halen plays the guitar solo.
Popular karaoke songs often speak to our hearts and express the meaning of our lives.
