SPN: The Man Who Would Be King 6.20

So, basically, Cas tells the boys and Bobby about the war that is going down in heaven and how he and Raphael became enemies. But, and yes there is a great big BUT... Sam and Bobby feel that Cas has been hiding something BIG...
Season 6, for me has been a not-so-enjoyable-roller coaster-ride! To me, it lacked the spark that the other seasons had because it was drenched in over-powering story lines where mythology was starting to become really complicated. The other thing that I really hated was the fact that there were too much loose ended plots that just left me reeling, unsatisfied, and just to top it all off... a little bit vulnerable!!!
I must say, after watching "The man who would be king", I was absolutely thrilled! It answered a lot of questions that I have been asking myself. It just gave me back some mojo that I have been dying to see all throughout season 6... Yes, we get to return to all the things that made us fall in love with the show in the first place, and I even enjoyed my cigarette afterwards!
O.K... getting back to the episode... There is an uncanny similarity to the now Castiel, in comparison to Sam before season 6. For instance, back in season 3, he tried to get Dean out of his deal when he sold his soul to save his little brother, and in the end, he ended up listening to a demon that took advantage of Sam's rescue attempt. Later, Ruby had convinced Sam that he was the rightful person on the pursuit to kill Lilith, encouraged his hatred for her and ultimately opened up Lucie's cage so he could have a bit of a stretch!! Even though, Sam was being manipulated, he truly maintained the notion that he was strong enough to finish the job that he was given, as well as thinking that he is doing this for all the right reasons. Well, we all know how that turned out eh?!!
Castiel... oh my poor heart breaks, dude!! what is going on in that weirdo angelic noggin' of yours? I know some people will be thinking after watching the episode that what Castiel did was unforgivable, if not, less forgivable than what Sam did. But I refuse to lose faith in Castiel, I know he will do a 180 and come back to us!! So, Cas admits to his crimes in a full confession of what he has done, like knowing that he didn't put Sam completely back together when he went to save him from being entertainment for Michael and Lucie while they were vacationing in hell.
He justifies his actions for doing deals with the former "King of the Crossroads" turned "Dirt-Bag of Hell" Mr. Crowley by saying he had the best interest of the world and the boys at heart, to prevent another Apocalypse and to make sure that the boys didn't go through all the troubles and turmoils for nothing. But in saying that... that is exactly why Sam did what he did... He thought he was doing the right thing.
So that puts Dean in a very familiar position, of trying to talk reason with a dude that thinks he is being reasonable. And I guess it is another "Same song - different verse gig"... Again. The sad thing about it, that was the moment that I had ever heard Dean say that he considers Cas as a brother to him, and right along side Sam and Bobby, he was family... just to be rejected.
Even though Cas has done this, there is always hope that he can redeem himself. But I guess that is the beauty of this show right? to test how much the characters can go through, and by gosh, have they been through a lot! But it's the constant theme, the traditional Supernatural at its best that will prevail to reel back the raw emotions that we have followed since the pilot episode... the perils... the heart-ache... love for one another... family... (Dean's moose-facials and corny one liners!) but ultimately... humanity.
